CODE OF ETHICS & CODE OF CONDUCT

Since 2005 all our actions are guided by a Code of Ethics and a Code of Conduct which govern the relationships with all our employees and suppliers.

The Code of Conduct guides the actions of all our employees and partners based on three main areas:

Human Capital
The code explicitly mandates the ban of underage employment, forced labour and any form of employees discriminations; it guarantees the freedom of association and the right to join Trade Unions and regulates the allowed disciplinary procedures; it directs the payment of minimum wages as defined by low or by collective bargaining agreements and the respect of the legal limits permitted by the local low of the maximum working hours including overtime; finally, it requires the definition of specific health and safety management plan, fire and other natural disasters contingency plans, first aid and physical working environment safety measures.

Environmental Protection
The code ensures the compliance to all the local regulations concerning chemicals and hazardous substances, waste management, water and air emission management.

Supply Chain Transparency and Regulatory Compliance
The code regulates the potential involvement of sub-contractors, anti-corruption practices and the participation to an independent auditing plan.

To guarantee the respect of Geox values, the code of conduct is signed by all our factories and the tanneries with which we have a continuous relationship.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE

People with their passion and culture lie at the base of it all.
The first thing we did was to implement a training and engagement plan for all our staff on sustainable innovation, so that everyone could personally contribute to the corporate project. We started by training a group of sustainability ambassadors, who are the cornerstone in the promotion of this new culture and who went on to become the trainers for the entire organisation.

Over the course of 2015 we involved all head office staff in specific training exercises, amounting to 700 people.
2016 is seeing the training being given to all staff worldwide.

SOCIETY

For a few years now we have been involved in projects which have a positive impact on society: the Valemour project that supports young people with Down syndrome in entering the working world and acquiring independence; the 'Germogli di Speranza' (Buds of Hope) project in Haiti that involved planting a small GEOX forest which offers the opportunity of income for the local people, while neutralising the CO2 emissions created by our junior shoe line.

MATERIAL

Material selection is the choice that most affects overall product impact.
We involve suppliers directly in sustainability analysis for various materials and design multi-functional innovation laboratories to identify the best solutions in partnership with them.

We pay particular attention to the choice of materials used for the sole, as it is a fundamental part of footwear and greatly determines its functionality. We have introduced virtuous materials, such as the natural rubber that we use in the New:Do™ line.

In order to make our manufacturing processes more efficient and reduce our environmental impact we reuse processing waste products. All our soles contain a minimum of 5% recycled material on average. Where we are not able to use our production scraps directly, we give them to companies that specialise in recycling the sole components so as to make full use of them.

Leather is our main material and that is why we are members of the Leather Working Group, an association of producers and distributors within the leather industry that promotes the adoption of sustainable and responsible practices.

To guarantee the highest labor, quality and environmental standards, our leather suppliers with whom we continuously collaborate, formally sign our code of conduct.

The leathers that we use do not come from cattle raised in areas that belong to the Amazonian Biome to ensure the stability of this vital ecosystem and to protect its biodiversity.

Since 2013 we have strived to respect the international standard certified by the Fur Free Alliance, which requires that any kind of animal fur be excluded from our products.

BUILDINGS

Our commitment extends to all areas of our business and also includes designing better buildings.

We have adopted green building protocols, operational guidelines that incorporate environmental and social sustainability principles within construction techniques.
The result is a decrease in the use of extracted raw materials and polluting substances, the efficient utilisation of resources and the well-being of the people working in the building.

The new Geox Restaurant, which has just opened, reflects our care for people's well-being and the environment in its features.
The corporate restaurant will be LEED certified, making it the first in Italy to carry this recognition of excellence.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION

We are conscious of the fact that everything we do has an impact on the environment and the climate and on all people that are connected to our company. That is why we adopt the best solutions available to minimise our energy consumption in everything that we do, including:

• 100% of the electicity we consume in Italy and Germany, amounting to more than 50% of our total, comes from certified renewable sources
• In December 2012 we activated a 6,500 square metre photovoltaic power system in our logistics hub in Signoressa (TR) that produces enough energy to cover 25% of the requirements for the entire area. From its activation until March 2016 the total energy production amounted to 3.5 million kWh, which prevented the production of 2,250 tonnes of CO2 and is the equivalent of planting 15,000 trees.
• An on-going program of interventions on our corporate practices and infrastructure is under way. For example, at the end of 2014 we replaced 80% of the light bulbs in our distribution centre with high-efficiency LEDs, which allowed us to save 53% on our energy consumption.
• Our new Geox restaurant has adopted the most advanced solutions for energy saving and system efficiency.
• We have chosen a high-efficiency corporate car fleet (over 80% of the vehicles emit less than 140g/km of CO2).
• We launched a corporate car-pooling service which we incentivise by reserving special parking spaces in our indoor car park. Thanks to this program we are able to save 484km per day on average, which is equivalent to planting 1600 trees every year.
