94% of Sevillians believe that the taxi sector has improved thanks to digitization

Madrid, October 14, 2021.- Digitization has had a transformative role in all sectors of the Spanish economy in recent years. At a greater or lesser rate, all of them have incorporated new technologies to remain competitive in their industry. The taxi sector is no exception. For this reason, Free Now, the leading mobility platform in Europe, has carried out a survey of its Sevillian users with the aim of knowing the impact of digitization in the taxi sector. It follows that 35% believe that the taxi sector has evolved considerably in the last five years and for 94% this improvement has been possible thanks to digitization that has allowed them, among other things, to book a journey hit click and stop using traditional forms of reservation that are already considered residual. In fact, only 6% prefer to book a taxi on the street or through a station.

Another of the reasons that, according to the data from the study, explains the evolution of the taxi industry and that has been highly valued by Sevillians is the appearance of other forms of payment beyond cash, such as card payment or through the apps. In this sense, 82% of Sevillians emphasize that knowing the fixed price of their journey in advance has had a positive influence on the use of the taxi. 'In Seville we have the LITE option that allows the user to know the maximum price in advance before getting into the car. It is an option that most users value and that until mid-September has up to a 50% discount on the journey[1]', comments Jaime Rodriguez de Santiago, General Manager of Free Now in Spain.

The appearance of applications as a method for reserving the different transport services has revolutionized the mobility sector, which has caused users to install several of them on their mobile terminals depending on the transport they choose at any given time. In this sense, 41.2% of Sevillians state that they use, on average, 2-3 transport applications. For this reason, and for greater comfort, up to 71% of those surveyed consider an application that integrates the greatest number of mobility options to be very useful.

The application, therefore, has become a key element for the present of mobility in cities, where the inclusion of shared cars, scooters and electric motorcycles is essential. For this reason, in Spain, this year Free Now has integrated into the App the services of electric motorcycles and electric bikes from Cooltra, and shared cars from SHARE NOW, making more than 4,000 new electric vehicles with low environmental impact available to its users. . 'It is also in our plans to expand our mobility offer in other Spanish cities in which we operate,' says the General Director of Free Now.

Digitization and sustainability go hand in hand

Digitization has allowed the mobility sector to reduce its level of polluting emissions into the atmosphere, since thanks to booking routes through the app, for example, the taxi does not circulate around the city without passengers. On the other hand, from the application itself it is possible to prioritize electric vehicle services, a fact that is already valued by more than 35% of Sevillians, for whom traveling by electric taxi is very important and 24% would even pay more to make journeys in electric vehicles.

In accordance with this trend, the electrification of the fleet is one of the objectives of Free Now. In fact, in Spain the fleet of electric taxis has grown by 272% and 642% more journeys have been made in electric taxis since the beginning of this year. Spain is thus positioned as one of the European countries where the mobility platform is making the most progress in terms of sustainability and electrification.
