CIRCULARITY - CRADLE TO CRADLE® CERTIFICATION INNOVATIONS

The Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Innovation Institute helps us design in closed loops. His philosophy is inspired by nature. In nature, there is no concept of waste; all materials are reused in cycles. Closed-loop or circular design strives to mimic these natural principles. Cradle to Cradle Certified® is the only certification in the world designed for a circular economy of products. It is the most stringent because it requires unparalleled levels of transparency throughout the supply chain. He looks at design from five perspectives: material health; water management; social justice; reuse of materials; and renewable energy.

In 2018, we introduced the world's first Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold denim fabric through Our Most Sustainable Jeans Ever. The innovative fabric contained 100% organic cotton and was dyed with zero harmful chemicals, without wasting a single drop of water. Since then, we have developed this innovative fabric. We introduced a low-dip summer version using only 2 indigo dips instead of 8 and then a stretchy version where 2% sustainable stretch was added to organic cotton for added comfort. We also launched a range of products where certification went beyond fabric. Here, the complete product, including buttons, wires and labels, was Cradle to Cradle Gold Certified®. This resulted in a 100% recyclable product. With these adaptations to the initial innovation, we were able to further increase the use of these circular fabrics throughout our collection. By continually expanding the sustainable offering across our collections and providing more sustainable choices, we aim to make it easier for our consumers to embrace change. Right now, around 5% of our fabrics are Cradle to Cradle Gold certified. For 2025, we have set an ambitious new target of 20%.

One of our biggest challenges as an industry is how to scale and accelerate innovation more widely and quickly. To make a real impact, collaborating and sharing is critical. That's why we've made our Cradle to Cradle Certified® denim fabric and hydrosulfite-free indigo technology openly accessible through the Fashion Positive Materials Library, enabling others in the industry to further implement and develop these innovations.
